Annual Camp Memorial Day Activities:

Memorial Day as always is a busy time for the Willard Camp. This year we will be involved with three Memorial Day events.

This year of 2019 marks the 151st anniversary of the issuing of General Order No. 11, by John A. Logan, Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, and establishing May 30th “for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in the defense of their country”. If you are available and can attend please contact Commander Rich Straight at your earliest convenience. We will need at least four Brothers for the Color Guard. All Brothers are encouraged to come and honor their Civil War ancestors and all who have died in defense of their county.

  • May 25th @ 9 am, Oakwood Cemetery, Troy arrive by 8:30 AM. We will meet at the Vanderheyden Memorial Bell at 8:30. Color Guard, Civil War or Camp Uniform.
  • May 25th, Memorial Day Service, Gerald H. Solomon National Military Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville, NY 1287, at 11:00 AM Note: Camp will not participate officially, Brothers are asked to arrive at 9:30 AM we will form a Civil War Color Guard in Civil War or Camp Uniform. We are not part of the program, but the Camp has been invited to stand in line with the cannons of the USNLP.
  • May 30th, Decoration Day Ceremony Time 9:30 AM, Albany Rural Cemetery at 10:00 meet at the caretaker’s house. After services at Albany Rural, we will proceed to Oakwood Cemetery and conduct services there; with visits to Col. Willard’s and Gen. Thomas’s grave sites. With Color Guard, Bugler, and Civil War or Camp Uniform.
