Memorial Day as always is a busy time for the Willard Camp.
This year we will be involved with two Memorial Day events.
This year of 2023 marks the 155th anniversary of the issuing of General Order No. 11, by John A. Logan, Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, and establishing May 30th “for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in the defense of their country”. If you are available and can attend please contact Bro. Richard E. Straight, PDC at your earliest convenience. We will need at least four Brothers for the Color Guard. All Brothers are encouraged to come and honor their Civil War ancestors and all who have died in defense of their county.
May 27th Assemble @ 8:30 AM, Start time @ 9:00 AM, Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. We will meet at the Vanderheyden Memorial Bell at 8:30. Color Guard, Civil War, or Camp Uniform. There will be the ringing of the Meneely Bell, wreath-laying, and placement of flags at the Soldiers’ Plot. If you are available and can attend please contact Bro. Richard E. Straight, PDC at your earliest convenience.
May 30th, Our camp will dedicate a Memorial Bench for an Unknown Hero of the Civil War at 11 am at Saratoga National Cemetery.
